The idea to create this website was the result of listening one morning to a broadcast of The Today Show. I was dumbfounded with the dialogue between Katie and Matt about online shopping. They completely overlooked local merchants and existing bricks and mortar retail stores. They had an opportunity to direct a revenue stream to them, but didn't. I was shocked into action and felt compelled to communicte my thoughts and suggestions to them. Click on this link if you want to read a copy of the letter emailed to The Today Show.
Needless to say, once I started researching Internet Associate Programs I was overwhelmed with optimism and impressed with the number of products available for local merchants to list and sell on their sites. What a lot of people don't know, and something I feel is a perfect purpose of this site, is to let people know that by entering the big sites through links on the web sites of local merchants they earn a referral fee when you buy something from these larger sites. Just reviewing the offerings at various sites took many hours, and many evenings.
The premise is fairly simple. It is about selling. And convincing and enticing you, the browser to click on links and image ads. The goal is to convince you to visit these other sites and to buy the offered merchandise. And again, once you do, the referring merchant earns a referral fee. A fee which can make all the difference between staying open for the public or being forced to close their physical store location.
At first I thought it rather cheesy, but then it dawned on me, "Well, why not?" There are really some terrific products available, and interesting too. And the beauty of it all (literally) is that as merchants we do not have to reinvent the wheel. The advertising sites have done all the work. They've created the catalogues and have shopping carts in place, and they have written all the ad copy too! And they have made it easy for all of us to buy online - which I encourage - and to help a local merchant.
So I guess exploring Internet Associate Programs, and buying their products, is a lot like browsing through books on a shelf - you have to pick it up and hold it in your hands, open the front cover, look at the table of contents, thumb through the pages, look at the pictures, check out the index, look at the inside flap to read the premise for the story, read the reviews on the back cover, and then the call to action! Read! (and then buy of course!) So, to that end, the next time you visit Amazon, for instance, portal through this website, (convenient search box is located in the upper right hand corner.) When you do, Known Books will earn a referral fee when you buy something.
